Josh briefly discusses the new Dead Space LP

Greetings all! Part 1 and 2 of our new LP is up and running! As always you can watch here or on Youtube! And as many of you go to watch it after reading this, you may notice something halfway through the video. That is the technical issue I ran into that I was attempting to fix. However, there is only so much you can do after the fact when you discover an audio and video desync. If it were just a standard desync I would be able to fix it quite easily, but this desync was caused by a slooooowwww audio drift which around the 15 minute mark becomes noticable. Unfortunately, I could only speed the audio up so much before the first half of the video went out of sync. The program I was using, Dxtory, was at fault. Apparently the program was notorious for this. Which is unfortunate because if I had known that I would not have used it to film this LP.

However! Do not fret! We here at Nuckatucka Productions learn from our failures! Dxtroy has officialy been retired, and a new program (which is currently being used to film a top secret LP right now) has taken its place. Bandicam. Bandicam is a wonderful program. I have absolutely no issues with it, and this is what I will be using from now on. I have done my best to fix the issues that come up in Dead Space, but it is still present. I hope you guys still enjoy it Thanks for all your support!

Left 4 Dead 2 LP-[new information]

Drew talks about the new details for his contributions to the Let's Play content:

I know it's taken me quite some time to release the newest episodes of the Left 4 Dead 2 Let's Play series, and the main reason is hardware limitations. I am currently doing all of my editing on a 2012 Macbook Pro, and if you have seen an episode of the L4D2 LP, you would know that it requires me to use multi-cam to playback 2-3 video feeds at once and select which video source I want to view at a certain moment in the video. I have to give credit to my i7 ivy bridge processor for allowing me to do the editing that I can without a dedicated graphics card. I have a budget, and I think I'd rather spend it on a couple of new HD capture cards to open up new opportunities for content in Nuckatucka (GTA V and PvZ: Garden Warfare). Eventually I'll get a computer more suitable for video editing, but until then I'm going to have to reduce the quality of the videos. Hopefully you understand, if quality is a main concern of yours when you watch videos. If not, you're welcome for the faster loading times. Thanks.

Dead Space LP Delayed

As some of you have noticed, there has been a delay in the release of the Dead Space LP. This is due to a variety of factors. Do not fret. The LP will start up next week. There was a technical issue with a few of the first episodes that had to be addressed before they could be released. You can expect to see it start up by Monday if not earlier. Thank you for your patience.

Rugged discusses the cancellation of the Fallout 3 LP

Hey all! As you may have noticed a Mirror's Edge Let's Play has been uploaded, and not a Fallout 3 one. This was due to several factors one of which being resources, and another being entertainment value. I felt that as an LP, Fallout 3 was too slow paced, and too open. I found myself getting distracted and wasting an entire hour/episode scavenging one place in the vanilla game. Therefore I decided I would not be doing an LP for that game. I swapped it out for a very fast paced, linear, action game, Mirror's Edge. This I hope will ultimately prove more entertaining, and have more quality content jampacked into a much shorter time than a Fallout 3 LP. Thanks for all the support guys! Please keep it up! I have just finished recording the first episode or so, and it is pretty dry to be honest, but I would like to hear what all of you have to say, the first episode will be up next week! I am hoping that with your feedback I will be able to tune this series to exactly what you guys want to see out of a Let's Play! I will even take game suggestions (must be on the Steam Marketplace)!
Site Updates!

Drew talks about the updates made to the site this weekend:

So... I'm finally done with updating the videos section of our site. I added a new thing called shows, which will allow us to upload episodes to different seasons of the same show (hint hint). Playlists work pretty much the same way. I added a few more playlists to help organize the videos. We now host every single video that we have ever uploaded to YouTube on our site. We use a HTML5 video player with mostly .mp4, and .ogv file formats. If your browser doesn't support HTML5 or these formats, you can also view the available videos on YouTube. We are also working on a flash-based backup player, which will be coming soon. I wanted to host the video files on our site so we don't have to rely on a different platform to get content to our viewers. Hosting our own videos allows us to bring more traffic to our site. We will still be utilizing our YouTube page. The mobile version of the video page will be coming soon as well.

This was a good weekend of coding.

~Drew

Drew talks about some site maintenance and updates:

I'm planning on either completely re-formatting the site, especially the mobile side of it. I want to host the videos on the actual site so we don't have to rely on Youtube so much. The videos will still be uploaded to Youtube, and there will just be more options on how to watch them. I want to organize the videos with more detail. For example, I could put all of the minecraft videos into one playlist instead of having all of the gaming videos in one playlist. I might not change the over all look of the site too much, but just be aware that anything is possible as I go along. I will be drastically changing the way the mobile site works. It will have a new theme, better functionality, and less errors.

Case Insensitive Login

Just finished making a case-insensitive login form. Check it out:

Now you can login without having to match the exact letter case pattern that you typed when you registered for the first time. You can login any way as long as they are the same letters. This is a big step forward. This also means that now nobody can have the same username in a different case pattern (for example: John and JoHn). This is not complete though. I have not yet finished making the username display how it used to (as you registered with). This can be done but I will not start working on it immediately. So for now you will have to see everyone's username lower cased. Sorry about that small inconvenience!

To Automate or to not.

Can you trust automated systems? Click that link over yonder:

Right now, the site is almost completely automated. There's the automated system for interacting with the site like writing blog posts, commenting, and creating accounts, but there's also the parts that you kinda don't think about. For example, When we upload a video to YouTube, the site automatically detects that and puts the files necessary in order for the video to be seen on the site. That includes adding the thumbnail to the sideshow, and adds it to the videos page. Now, this means that whatever the system says goes and as of right now there have been a few bugs but I pretty much smoothed it out, but if I upload a video in the morning before I head over to school and don't pay attention to it until later that day and I find that the picture in the slideshow is a little bit weird looking then I would have to change the code and pretty much affect the entire slideshow. So wouldn't be safer to just manually add things to the site? I don't know. This was just something I was thinking about.

Mobile Site: Podcast page

Just finished coding the Podcast page for the mobile site. Want details? Click it:

The podcast page for the mobile site has just been completed. If you don't know already, the mobile site is for viewers on Android phones and iOS (excluding iPad) devices. At the moment there is no way to just view the desktop site by choice, but I will probably end up giving you guys that option. There is a good thing here though. If I haven't made the mobile version of a page you will see the desktop version instead. That way the site is still fully functional while I'm working on the other components to the site. Anyways back to the main subject. The podcast page basically works just like the desktop version. At the top is the picture for the podcast and below is an HTML5 audio player that allows you to listen to the podcast. Which gives me a good point to put out there. Not all devices support HTML5. The newer versions of Android (2.2+) will probably have no problem running the simple audio tag. There is no grantee that what I am saying is true for your situation. You could download a third party browser from the market like Dolphin. iOS (4.0+) should be fine. This is one more step towards a complete mobile site! Adios.

Today I coded the videos section of our site for the mobile site. That includes the main videos page, the playlists, and the actual video page. I finally got not lazy enough to work on the mobile site. As you may know, creating the full desktop site was a big pain as it was. Making pretty much the exact same site with a totally knew design that I have to pay attention to in the code is the ultimate bummer. But have no fear. It shall be done soon enough. :D

Our web application, WhoElse, allows you to send what you are doing at the current time to the server and hope that you get a match with someone else that is doing something with similar keywords in the same minute in time. It has potential to be entertaining if used by more than one person at a time. The lack of people who use this tool is a different story. What I wanted to talk about was a particular post I had came across a couple of weeks back while looking through the server. The first thing that stood out was it's size, 1.4 KB, when the average size of the rest of the 198 posts was 20 B. As you could imagine this post was significantly longer than the others. It went in to lots of detail about random subjects and all of this crazy non-sense. I wanted to congratulate this person by writing a blog post about all of the funny posts I had came across that day but that post ended up not being published so now here is my chance. A couple of days ago I was talking about technology and junk with my friend Spayd. We got to talking about WhoElse and I was telling him about the post. He was also telling me how he had used it and I realized we were both talking about the same post! Although I was shocked that this post came from someone I knew, I was not surprised that it was him. Spayd is a very intelligent, geeky, nerdy kind of guy. You can see this by this award he received:

I've been working on a script, the one I accidentally used to destroy all of our blog posts, that allows us to type in links, show YouTube videos, and link to users' profiles more efficiently. Now, all you will have to do is type in the URL (including the "http://"), YouTube video URL (the same applies for the "http://"), or the username of the profile you want to link to and the script automatically turns them into links. This is currently available on the Nuckatucka Blog and will soon be added to personal blogs.

RIP: Old Blog Posts

In a terrible coding accident, I managed to delete the entire folder that contained all of our blog posts. These are not savable. I have spent the last 30 seconds trying to save them but I just can't. However, we will continue posting as if nothing happened, because that's how we handle situations like these here at Nuckatucka. We just act like it never happened. Haha!

A strange thing has happened. All of our blog posts have disappeared. There is a chance I can save them though.
